Florida 4-H Statistics 1998-1999

Total Number of Youth Participating in Florida 4-H in 1998-1999: 298,304 youth

Spanning ages 5-18, the 4-H program is active in all of Florida's 67 counties and on the Seminole Tribes reservations in south Florida.

Nearly 33% of youth impacted by Florida 4-H programs are from minority racial or ethnic groups.

Less than 4% of youth involved in Florida 4-H programs live on farms. The majority of them live in towns, cities, suburbs or urban areas with more than 10,000 residents.

Adult and Teen Volunteers: 19,732
For each hour the salaried staff member spends in 4-H, the volunteer spends 10. Volunteer support results in a cost savings of $22.8 million dollars to the state annually.

These statistics are from Florida 4-H's annual es-237 report for the Sept. 1, 1998 to August 31, 1999  program year.

These numbers are compiled annually from county 4-H reports, which are based on 4-H enrollment. In Florida, county 4-H programs use a software program called Blue Ribbon to manage their enrollment and run the reports.
