Carol
Gollnick has been a 4-H leader for 26 years and if it were possible to
clone 4-H leaders, her agent says that she would clone her. She became the
leader of the Indian River County 4-H Horsemasters Club in 1976 and has
supported the entire 4-H program throughout the years. Members of her club
participate in all areas of the 4-H program including Florida 4-H
Congress. Her club is very large but she still manages to provide meetings
that are fun and educational. Every year they plan and hold the Valentine
4-H Horse Show to raise funds for their county, district, state and
national activities. Gollnick is a role model not only for her 4-Hers, but
also for other 4-H club leaders. She participates in and chaperones all
events and is willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed in the
county. She constantly provides encouragement, support and new ideas for
club leaders. Many of Gollnick’s
former club members thank her for insisting they compete in county events
because it gave them experience and the courage to pursue careers in law
and teaching. “4-H has helped me to be closer to my family, both my
children and my grandchildren. I’ve known they were in worthwhile
activities and been able to enjoy 4-H with them,” she said. Gollnick’s
dedication goes beyond 4-H. She is very active in her community as well.
She is a member of the IRC Association of Educational Office Personnel and
has worked for the American Cancer Society and educational foundations.
