Glisson has dedicated more than 40 years of his life to the 4-H program.
His career began as an outstanding youth 4-H member who was involved in
several state judging teams and on the county council. While attending the
University of Florida he was a 4-H club leader and managed 4-H summer
camps for three years. After he graduated from UF he became a 4-H agent in
Marion County and was also County Extension Director in Liberty County. He
served as president of the Southeastern Livestock Association for twenty
years, and he was also the first chairman of the Southeastern Youth Fair.
Glisson is also a speaker for 4-H clubs, functions, and recognition
programs. Glisson said that 4-H was instrumental in starting his career,
and he lives the 4-H motto every day.
He is a founding member of the Marion County 4-H Foundation, and
has provided resources for the Southeastern steer and hog shows, the 4-H
horse program and the Florida 4-H Foundation.
He is also a co-founder of the Youth in Agriculture Recognition
program, which became the Youth in Agriculture Celebration, and he has
also judged numerous district events, county events and served as chairman
of the steer show. Glisson’s
effort for 4-H are endless and he is recognized as one of the most
knowledgeable agricultural people in Marion County. He has established
many outstanding programs and secured sponsors and funding for 4-H youth
activities in Marion County.
