Fifty
years ago several 4-H leaders started an annual gathering of youth
exhibits which became the Dade County Youth Fair. E. Darwin Fuchs became
general manager of the fair in 1969 and continues to serve as president of
the Fair. He supported 4-H by providing a float, that he usually drove, in
the annual Jr. Orange Bowl Parade each year. He for cotton candy sales at
the fair to the support the Dade County 4-H Foundation. With his
leadership over $500,000 has been donated to the foundation. Fuchs has
provided a member of his staff to serve on the Florida 4-H Foundation
Board iof Directors for 10 years, and he has served as president of the
county 4-H foundation since
1991. He also approved the $1,000 Walter B. Arnold Jr. Scholarship
supporting the 4-H Hall of Fame at the University of Florida. A strong
believer in giving back to the community he also serves on numerous
committees and advisory councils.
