Terry
Floyd Jr. joined 4-H in his youth and lived by the values of the 4-H
program. In college he set his goals and landed his dream job as a 4-H
extension agent. He developed many statewide materials, and his
“Design the Future” youth conference set the precedent for
multi-generational problem solving. He fostered youth team building
skills, developed the Orange County and state 4-H ambassador programs,
mentored other extension agents, and directly impacted the growth of
Orange County’s dairy, livestock and equestrian clubs. His
innovative volunteer techniques won three Walt Disney World
Community Service Awards. Floyd
impacted thousands of children with his innovative thinking and programs
designed to get everyone involved. Under his guidance a 4-H member won
the National Race Car Circuit and the “4-H Chevy Love Truck” was
featured twice a week on the nationwide “Truckin’ USA” television
program. Floyd constantly kept a good image in the local media, and he
had a way of talking to every young person and making him or her feel
special. A true testament to his impact is the number of program members
who return to serve as volunteers, leaders, mentors and agents for 4-H
youth. Floyd
was a member of the 4-H Program Development Committee, the State 4-H
Congress Steering Committee, Coordinator for District VI Events, and he
served as an instructor at Venture Elementary School for the Orange
County “Teach-In.” He
recognized great power in the words “Thank you,” and he empowered
youth to set high standards and surpass everyone’s expectations.
