With 76 years of involvement in the 4-H program Earl
Byrd has made many contributions to 4-H. He helped many 4-Hers attend
Florida 4-H Congress and other state and national events. He started his
4-H work at age 12 raising chickens. Later he became a potato farmer and
county commissioner in St. Johns County. He has honored outstanding boys
and girls in 4-H with a plaque, and he has often fought for 4-H in the
county and was instrumental in increasing funding that is still in place
today.
Byrd
said, “I never thought of what I did in terms of how often I did them. I
just did what I thought was needed to be done to help 4-H.”
