This workbook is for 4-H members ages 9-11 years old. Energy Encounters will help youth understand the environmental and economic issues associated with Energy.  The concepts learned are; energy sources, solar energy, electric energy, conservation, and the environment.

Energy Links Leader Guide NCSU 1 Ordering INFO
Contains nine units and 22 experiments geared toward the objective of fifth grade science. The curriculum uses the Experiential Model and also contains short vignettes for each unit which help the child to see energy across the ages. This aspect captivates the young person and gives youth perspective as well as an appreciation for what energy accomplishes in our lives. Electric Excitement:  4-H Electric Series
EL11 Electric Excitement 1:  Magic of Electricity  4H CCS 6848 Ordering INFO
This project guide is for 4-H members ages 9-10 , and is the first in the Electric Excitement series.  The Magic of Electricity will teach 4-H'ers about; appreciating electricity, identifying electrical materials, wiring simple circuits, comparing open and closed switches, testing materials for electric conductivity, electron paths, magnetism, and transferring electric energy into motion. 
EL12 Electric Excitement 2:  Investigating Electricity  4H CCS 6849 Ordering INFO
This activity guide is for 4-H members 11-13, and is the second in the Electric Excitement series.  The Magic of Electricity will teach 4-H'ers about; selecting a volt-ohm meter, understanding Ohm's Law, using a volt-ohm meter, identifying conductors and insulators, basic symbols used in circuit diagrams, using a volt-ohm meter, the voltage in circuits, momentary switches, three-way switches, soldering, and how to follow and read a circuit diagram. 
EL13 Electric Excitement 3:  Wired for Power  4H CCS 6850 Ordering INFO
This activity guide is for 4-H members ages 14-15, and is the third in the Electric Excitement series.  Wired for Power will teach 4-H'ers about; basic electrical tools and supplies, the local electric code, how to read an electrical meter, locating and identifying the main service panel, the symbols on wires and cables, different light bulbs, appliance nameplates, how to determine the amount of energy used, different types of receptacles, testing for electric voltage, testing grounded outlets, locating home wiring systems, and determining useable watts. 
EL14 Electric Excitement 4:  Entering Electronics  4H CCS 6851 Ordering INFO
This activity guide is for 4-H members ages 16 and up, and is the fourth in the Electric Excitement series.  Entering Electronics will teach 4-H'ers about; identifying and using electronics parts, soldering and preparing parts for circuit assembly, how to connect a diode in a circuit, using a transistor, "cool" light sources, combining a transistor, an LED and other components to assemble a circuit that intermittently flashes the LED, and how to trigger a specially made diode into conduction.

This leader's guide for the above series will help you support youth in his or her efforts to set goals and complete activities, as well as providing resources for the member's to use in completing the series.  
EL2 Power of Electricity 
This leader-led project guide is for 4-H members ages 12-14.  The Power of Electricity will help youth understand the environmental and economic issues associated with Electricity.  The concepts learned are; understanding electricity, how electricity travels, electricity's silent partner, energy in action, and electric environment.
